Overview

#TeamMer is made up of energized individuals who care deeply about education, including nonprofit practitioners, educators, public officials, and students. Together, we are committed to empowering the schools of East Side Union High School District (ESUHSD) so that East Side students graduate from high school prepared to thrive and live a life of dignity and economic mobility.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to be involved in a local nonprofit leader’s campaign during the 2026 General Election. As an intern, you will communicate fundamental campaign messaging by connecting directly with voters. You will develop transferable campaign leadership skills, including event planning, canvassing, phonebanking, and networking. We know that students have busy schedules; that is why #TeamMer commits to accommodating individual circumstances and needs.

Expectations and Grounds for Termination

  1. Missing two (2) scheduled canvassing shifts without prior 24-hr communication to the Campaign Manager.

  2. Missing two (2) scheduled phone banking shifts without prior 24-hr communication to the Campaign Manager.

  3. Unprofessional behavior.

What can you expect?

  • You’ll gain hands-on experience in social media relations, voter outreach, campaign strategy, and more.

  • You will learn about how local elections work, engage with government agencies and public officials, and make a real impact in your community.

Intern Duties and Responsibilities

Duration: (all dates can be flexible based on your availability, within the listed months)

  • Winter 2025/Spring 2026 term, from November 2025-May 2026 

  • Summer 2026 term, from June-August 2026

  • Fall 2026 term, from September-November 2026

Commitment: (flexible to accommodate your schedule)

  • Approximately 5-10 hours per week 

  • May include weekend events

  • Hourly commitment can be done on a flexible schedule throughout the week

Duties:

  • Weekly Zoom meeting for weekly assignments and check-ins

    • Must communicate with campaign manager if unable to attend

  • Bi-/weekly canvassing 

    • Attending weekend canvassing shifts 

  • Bi-/weekly phonebanking 

    • Attending phonebanking shifts as your schedule permits 

Responsibilities: (based on previous experience)

  • Conducting research and policy analysis on education and district policy.

  • Engaging with community members and distributing campaign materials.

  • Managing social media accounts and online presence.

  • Collaborating with the campaign team to develop outreach strategies and recruitment.

  • Maintaining teamwork, organization, and communication among other campaign team members.

  • Assisting with campaign events and fundraisers.
